Pencil test is part of a larger group of pre pointe assessment tests that measures ankle range of motion. Here’s how to do it: 1. Sit on the floor with legs straight out in front 2. Point feet 3. Place a pencil across the top of the ankle If the pencil lies flat against the foot without touching the shin, it indicates a pass. @thepointeshop does not offer the pre pointe assessment unless a fitter is trained as a physical therapist or a dance specific trainer. We always recommend you get assessed

When you buy pointe shoes, don’t rush to sew the ribbons right away. Take the time to test them and see if they really work for your feet. If they don’t feel right, you can still return them as long as you haven’t sewn anything on. And once you have the right pair, learn how to take care of them. Warm up your feet and your shoes before class. Let them dry properly after. Pointe shoes are built with glue and other materials that change with moisture. If you ignore that, the shoes break down fast

Does your darning pass the test? 🧵 Principal Roseanna Leney tells us why darning is important for pointe shoes and how to put it to the test. The perfect pointe shoe takes some care and crafting. When brand new shoes arrive from the shoemakers they aren't quite ready to wear fresh out the box, there are a few steps to take in order to create the perfect fit. No two dancers feet are the same, which is why they put in time and effort to personalise their shoes to fit their needs. Rosie is kindly
