Huckleberry Hound, the easygoing blue dog with a thick Southern drawl, first appeared in 1958 as the star of Hanna-Barbera’s The Huckleberry Hound Show. Voiced by Daws Butler, he became the first cartoon character to headline his own half-hour series. Whether playing a clumsy sheriff, a reluctant firefighter, or a tone-deaf singer of “Oh My Darling Clementine,” Huck faced every job with unshakable optimism and a slow, folksy charm. The show also introduced Yogi Bear and the mice Pixie and Dixie.
