One of two skunk species found in Orange County, spotted skunks are known for their ability to perform handstands although it’s not well documented. They are also good climbers (unlike striped skunks) which you can see in this rare video. Weighing it at about 1 pound, they are much smaller than striped skunks and by doing a handstand toward potential threats, they make themselves look larger. All skunks have poor vision and likely mistook the camera as a threat.Spotted skunks can form a “U” shap

I would like to introduce to you the Florida Striped Skunk. Two species of skunk occur in Florida, the striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis), and the eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius). The striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) is a highly adaptable animal that can be found in a wide variety of habitats, from open fields to urban areas. It is well known for its ability to spray an unpleasant scent to ward off potential threats. What's the difference between a skunk and a striped skunk? The white

Striped Skunks are a species we don’t commonly see in the research forest. This recognizable mammal uses a wide range of habitats, but we have recently been detecting them on our wildlife cameras in areas near riparian features. Striped skunks are primarily insectivores, feeding on grasshoppers and worms, but they have a broad diet that can include plants, small mammals, amphibians, and fish. It’s always exciting to spot less common species on our cameras, and we’ll be watching to see whether sk

Gray fox and striped skunk! Are they playing or at war? It’s actually quite common to see some foxes and skunks forage together but it’s anyone’s guess what’s going on here. #ocoutdoors #skunk #fox #nature #trailcam #wildlife | Orange County Outdoors

Skunk 1 - Fox 0 A standoff between a gray fox and striped skunk. Skunks have very poor vision and even the fox is not a threat, the skunks reaction is to defend itself by looking big and bluff charging. What’s interesting is that spotted skunks are sometimes seen paralleling gray foxes but striped skunks just aren’t having that. In this instance, the fox escaped scent free! 🦨 🦊 Video by @captured_bynathalie #ocoutdoors #skunk #fox #grayfox #stripedskunk #nature #trailcam #orangecounty | Orange

The striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) is a skunk of the genus Mephitis that occurs across much of North America, including southern Canada, the United States, and northern Mexico. It is currently listed as least concern by the IUCN on account of its wide range and ability to adapt to human-modified environments. The striped skunk is omnivorous, it eats both meat and plants. Its diet includes insects, small mammals, fish, crustaceans, fruits, nuts, leaves, grasses and carrion (dead animals). Disc

Striped skunks use strong scent spray to confuse threats, and red foxes rely on sharp senses to stay alert in snow. Both animals are clever and often test each other’s reactions in the wild. What if a skunk sprayed a gas-like puff toward a fox and the fox got fully confused in the snow? Sometimes a small trick changes the whole game. #AiByDOGGAR #Skunk #RedFox #SnowAnimals #WildlifeFacts #FunnyWildlife #AnimalReactions #viralreeĺs | World Re-imagined

In August, we showed you our juvenile spotted skunk practicing some of her first handstands! This is her today, still doing handstands😍 Spotted skunks do this as a warning before they spray, and it's very effective for scaring off predators. Next week, she'll be ready for release along with 8 of her striped skunk friends! #keepaustinwild #handstandwarning | Austin Wildlife Rescue

This Spotted Skunk (22-8745) was brought to our hospital by Gumbo Limbo Nature Center employees. Unfortunately, he was effected by toxic fumes after a building was fumigated for termites. Upon admission, the skunk was actively seizing as a result of the fumes he inhaled. Medical staff stabilized the patient and placed him in our ICU for close observation. After 3 weeks of administering medications, hand feeding, and observing his behaviors, this skunk was finally cleared to move to an outdoor ha

Striped skunks are useful creatures! They might spray, but they're great mousers, even better than cats. Their bold coloration warns: 'I have something you don't want!' Appreciate these misunderstood animals. #Skunks #Wildlife #Nature #PestControl #AnimalFacts | Backyard Bird Center
