Every version of the PlayStation 5 is now $50 more expensive in the U.S., but at least for now, a new deal at GameStop will cover the difference. The meme stock retailer announced it will start giving anyone who trades in their last-gen consoles an extra $50 in-store credit toward the purchase of a new PS5.
"As an aside, Nintendo also explored raising prices on Switch 2 when tariffs were temporarily at 10% for Vietnam. Now they're at 20%. This is definitely impacting margins for them. While they may not be willing to raise prices right now, I can see them reconsidering next year [2026]."
There's plenty of headsets from the brand that are fully compatible with the Sony pixel-pusher, from the Stealth 700 Gen 3 to the Stealth 600 Gen 3, but so far, the Atlas 200 remains the first of its kind to be officially licensed and bear that iconic blue and white Sony branding.

California governor Gavin Newsom has reacted to the PlayStation 5 price hike in the US, jokingly thanking US President Donald Trump for making it happen via his controversial tariff strategy. Re-sharing a news story about the PS5 price hike, Newsom, a Democrat, posted on social media, "Great work, Donald Trump!!"
Each of the three current models of the PS5 consoles will go up by $50. That means the PS5 Digital Edition will be $500 instead of $450; the standard PS5 (with Blu-ray optical drive) will be $550 instead of $500; and the high-end PS5 Pro will be $750 instead of $700.
