At least 26 people were killed and 17 others wounded when gunmen opened fire on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the worst assault in years targeting civilians in a restive region that has seen an anti-India rebellion for more than three decades.

A LocalCircles survey conducted after the attack found that out of Indian domestic tourists who were planning to visit the once ‘Heaven on Earth’ this year, as many as 62 per cent have decided not to go, saying they were now “cancelling plans/bookings.”

Tourism in Kashmir sees a fresh setback following the Pahalgam terror attack, with operators reporting mass cancellations. A survey conducted by LocalCircles reveals that six out of 10 travellers who had planned trips to Kashmir between May and December 2025 are now cancelling their bookings.
