The federal government said it deployed hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles to protect federal buildings and personnel during anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests in June. The decision marked the first time in more than three decades Marines were sent into a U.S. city amid civil unrest.

The Pentagon ordered the U.S. Marines to leave Los Angeles on Monday, more than a month after President Donald Trump deployed them to the city against the objections of local leaders.
