James sustained the groin injury during a game against the Boston Celtics on March 8, which led to a seven-game absence. He returned to action on March 22 and has since been working to regain full fitness. The hip flexor strain has also been a concern, but James has continued to log in heavy minutes in the playoffs.

Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the Timberwolves' planning for this matchup involved limiting James in transition and force him to work a lot in the halfcourt with the belief he will "tire" himself out over the course of a long series.
