One of the two Iowa Army National Guard members killed in Saturday’s terrorist attack in Syria has been identified as the son of a local police chief.

Two U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian were killed Saturday after an ambush by an ISIS gunman in central Syria, U.S. Central Command said.

It said that two members of Syria’s security force and several U.S. service members were wounded and rushed by helicopters to the Tanf garrison near the border with Iraq and Jordan.

Iowa State did it without star junior Audi Crooks, who missed the game with an injury she suffered during the team’s win over 12th-ranked Iowa earlier in the week. Crooks began the day leading the nation in scoring, averaging 27.8 points per game. She’s expected to finish return-to-play protocol early this week.
