Kansas City's front office announced its decision to waive Young as part of a series of transactions that saw former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah placed on the Chiefs' injured reserve list. The team signed defensive lineman Owen Carney and linebacker Xander Mueller to bring its roster back to full strength.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid made the announcement on Monday. Anudike-Uzomah, 23, suffered a right-hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of last week’s preseason game at the Seattle Seahawks. Because Anudike-Uzomah went on IR before the final roster cutdown date of Aug. 26, it becomes a season-ending injury.
