The NHC said it currently expected Erin to become a Category 4 storm later Saturday but to eventually swerve away from the continental United States.
Hurricane Erin has weakened but is still a powerful Category 3 storm with max sustained winds of 115 mph and moving northwest at 7 mph.
"The core of Erin is expected to pass to the east of the southeastern and central Bahamas today and tonight," the National Hurricane Center said.
