The Arch Manning era of the Texas Longhorns college football program is officially upon us.

After a shaky performance in his preseason debut last week, Quinn Ewers put on a show in a 24-17 win against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

The rookie QB tossed two touchdowns to his favorite target in Theo Wease Jr. enroute to the 24-17 win over the Lions.

Ewers, who spent three seasons as Texas’ starter, played a key role in elevating the Longhorns before making the jump to the pros. His departure has now ushered in the a new era in Austin. The grandson of Saints legend Archie Manning waited patiently behind Ewers for two years before stepping into the spotlight as the program’s new leader.

Quinn Ewers was a 7th-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2025. With Zach Wilson in the fold, Ewers has an uphill battle if he wants to supplant the 5-year vet and former NFL starter as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa.

Miami once again clamped up the Lions’ offense, leading to a 21-yard Jason Sanders field goal on the subsequent drive that pushed the Dolphins’ lead to 24-17. The Dolphins’ two drives in the fourth quarter ate up nearly 12 minutes of game time.

Zach Wilson, who was a member of Gang Green from 2021-23, had an impressive first half for the Dolphins on Saturday, helping them beat the Lions 24-17 in their second preseason game.
