NWS Charleston issued flash flood warnings across multiple media platforms on Friday, urging people in Downtown Charleston to move vehicles to higher ground and warning that floodwaters could enter homes.

Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency in New Jersey as Hurricane Erin, while staying hundreds of miles off the Jersey Shore, brings rough surf, windy conditions and the potential for widespread coastal flooding to the region.

The NWS Newport/Morehead City NC released a coastal flood advisory at 9:24 p.m. on Friday in effect until Sunday at midnight for Ocracoke Island.

Atlantic City, Wildwood, Margate, and Ocean City are among the towns that have banned ocean swimming as the hurricane moves north.

The National Weather Service issued an updated coastal flood warning at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday in effect until Saturday at 2 a.m. for Cape May County.

On Friday at 3:44 p.m. the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC released an updated coastal flood advisory in effect until Saturday at midnight for Northern Outer Banks.

Engineering firm and city staff identified city regions vulnerable to flooding, and where projects could help improve stormwater infrastructure.

Around 12:10 p.m., Doppler weather radar detected heavy rainfall from thunderstorms soaking areas that have already recorded up to 2 inches of rain.

On Thursday at 11:10 p.m. a coastal flood warning was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC in effect until Saturday at midnight for Northern Outer Banks and Hatteras Island.
