Texas Sen. John Cornyn outraised his Republican challenger, Attorney General Ken Paxton, by $1 million during the first three months of what’s becoming one of the most hotly contested primary battles of the 2026 midterm elections.

WASHINGTON – The news of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's divorce from his wife of 38 years may be a gift to at least one Texan: his Republican primary opponent, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Paxton and Cornyn have been barreling toward a bruising 2026 primary battle to represent Republicans in the Texas Senate race next fall.

Cornyn will need to use his deep coffers to overcome an early polling deficit to Paxton, who is looking to deny the GOP incumbent’s bid for a fifth term.
