Czech firefighters are battling a major blaze in eastern Czech Republic after a freight train derailed and carcinogenic benzene from damaged tank wagons caught fire.

In October 2023, a BNSF coal train went off the tracks north of Pueblo. The derailment caused the railway’s bridge over I-25 to collapse, killing a trucker who was traveling underneath. The interstate was closed for days for repairs.

Authorities in the Czech Republic announced Saturday that a fire caused by the derailment of a freight train carrying benzene had been extinguished. A fire brigade spokesman told Noviny.cz that several small fires were put out overnight at the site of Friday's accident near Hustopeče nad Bečvou.

Service on a portion of NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley line is suspended on Tuesday morning after a freight train derailed in Union County, officials said. NJ Transit service remains suspended in both directions between Cranford and Newark Penn Station. Passengers can use NJ Transit buses as an alternative.
