A 14-year-old girl was hit by a car while walking to her school bus in Estero, Florida, after the driver attempted to pass the stopped bus.

An Emmaus High School student was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when a two-vehicle collision sent one car onto the sidewalk, striking the teen who was walking nearby, police said.

Janet Rutherford, the victim’s grandmother, told the Herald-Leader Hamm, a school bus driver, “pulled (her grandson’s) shirt tightly and choked him from behind.”
