Ten years is a blink of an eye in the animation-to-live-action-remake pipeline, and the original Moana (2016) is arguably Disney’s last bonafide princess classic. While this might explain why kids will be excited to see it—“How Far I’ll Go” does the rounds in some households as often as “Let It Go” from Frozen—what it doesn’t explain is how a studio can be satisfied with sullying a still-growing IP (the animated Moana 3 is en route) by way of such lackluster filmmaking.
