House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul says he was briefly detained after becoming "disoriented" from mixing Ambien and alcohol before a flight earlier this month, calling his actions "a poor decision.

Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he was detained by police at an airport near Washington, D.C. earlier this month. McCaul said he became “disoriented” at Dulles International Airport after he took medication and drank alcohol before his scheduled flight back home to Texas.

Michael McCaul, a Republican representing Austin, Texas, was briefly detained at the Dulles International Airport outside Washington D.C. earlier this month and charged with being drunk in public, Semafor reported.
